Madrone’s Biology team has been conducting American Goshawk (formerly Northern Goshawk) surveys for multiple decades. We recently provided support to BC Timber Sales to complete goshawk surveys throughout Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast. Goshawk surveys usually involve multiple days of fieldwork and traveling by 4x4 truck, boat, or helicopter to reach remote field sites. Our team of experienced Biologists is accustomed to challenging field conditions that are often associated with these surveys, which sometimes require negotiating steep slopes exceeding 80%!
The American Goshawk laingi subspecies is listed as Threatened under Schedule 1 of the Species at Risk Act and is red listed by the BC Conservation Data Centre. This species is also included in the Identified Wildlife Management Strategy under the Forest and Range Practices Act. Madrone often supports forestry organizations in developing appropriate habitat management for this Threatened species.
